Spelling

Spelling is used to write. Children especially and adults must learn to spell so they can write down information and ideas for others to read. Teacher’s must encourage students to learn high frequency words, words they ask for to use in their writing, topic words from curriculum areas and words they cannot spell. Children need to use a range of different strategies to learn how to spell. These may include look-write-cover-say-check, word building, mnemonics or memory triggers (Hill, 2006, pp 266-278).
