There are several different ways to plan a literacy curriculum including subject curriculum, multidisciplinary curriculum and integrated curriculum. Subject curriculum involves each different subject having a seperate time block during the day, multidisiplined curriculum involves choosing a certain topic and working on it for several days or weeks. And finally, integrated curriculum involves what the teacher knows about literacy learning and the children's interests. Most teachers use a combination these (Hill, 2006, pp 373-376).
When children are involved in planning and design of learning of the class room, it gives them a sense of importance and encourages them to be responsible for the learning resources that are available to them.
