Diversity

Teachers in a classroom have to find a connection between diversity in their classroom. Teacher's need to explore a child's world to make these connections, and to make connections between home and school. A child's practices, activities and funds of knowledge need to be explored. Teachers can encourage parents in the community to support language and literacy by using community funds of knowledge and linking it to school literacy. Simple and easy ideas such as reading and talking about books together enhances interactions with the child, and builds vocabulary and comprehension skills. The most beneficial way to teach children this is to read aloud with them (Hill, 2006, pg 70).
